Humble Beginnings

Downingtown Music Academy started in 2013 and has since been helping students achieve their musical goals, fast, for the past 10 years. Rosalind Hayes began teaching lessons towards the conclusion of her master’s degree program while pregnant with her first son. Over the years the studio grew until we opened our first physical location in 2020. Teaching and building a business with three children has not been the easiest task for her, but it is her great joy to bring music to the community and instill confidence and success in budding musicians.

Our studio has been voted the best in Downingtown three years in a row since 2019! We’ve won awards on Thumbtack and on Alignable for 2020 best Downingtown business out of 900 businesses on the site. Most Recently we won the Best of Mainline 2021.

We are committed to creating a culture that emphasizes community, convenience, and collaboration among our students. Our holistic approach to lessons incorporates recitals, community performances, personalized lesson experiences, and an efficient method for monitoring and motivating students to practice at home.

Throughout the years we have performed throughout the community and partnered with other like-minded businesses including the annual Halloween boo bash at Kerr Park, fall performances with Highland Orchards, and the national anthem with the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

I can't believe it's been four years since I started my voice lessons with Rosalind! Time truly flies when you're having fun, and this journey has been both enjoyable and profoundly enriching. Over these years, Rosalind has guided me through a diverse range of songs, genres, and vocal techniques with exceptional skill. Music lessons often involve navigating personal vulnerabilities, and many who are passionate about music face these challenges. Rosalind's holistic and personalized approach has been instrumental in helping me overcome both technical and mental obstacles. Her thoughtfulness, kindness and resourcefulness make her an incredible coach. She has an ability to help you recognize and embrace your own distinctive voice, regardless of age or background. Her belief that everyone’s voice is special and should be heard and celebrated is truly inspiring. The Downingtown Music Academy is a welcoming environment for both kids and adults. It's been a pleasure to see it grow as a vibrant community. If you're looking for a dedicated and compassionate vocal coach or music teacher, Rosalind is the one to choose!

I'm started to take lessons with Rosalind as a completely beginner adult student and she does great: she gives personalised exercises to meet each student personal needs, always gives me clear explanations when I need them and keeps an atmosphere friendly and supportive. I feel I making progress with her and really enjoy our lessons.

Last year I got a gift certificate for one of the singing lesson packages and it was one of the best gifts I’ve ever received! I love singing but was never good and never had the confidence to pursue it because I thought I was helpless. Within a few short weeks with Rosalind and I started to see improvements, especially with my pitch matching! Soon enough, I was singing some of my favorite songs and singing them well! Rosalind is fantastic to work with - she really knows her stuff and is super helpful, personable and patient, demystifying singing for me which I always thought you had to be born with it. 10/10 highly recommend!

My son has been a piano student of Rosalind’s for about 6 years now, with some guitar lessons in between. We have really enjoyed watching him thrive in progress and engagement. In particular, how he has worked on pieces in preparation for recitals. Ms. Rosalind is patient, perceptive and purposeful in her lessons whether remote or in person. The flexibility of scheduling has been most convenient. Highly recommend Downingtown Music Academy!
