These are a Few of my Favorite Things!
Forget raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Read below to learn about my favorite technology to use in lessons!
Practice space.
This is an app that tracks the practice habits of our students, and helps us create digital task lists to improve communication between parent, teacher and student. I can put video tutorials and pdf music files in for students, and they can log their practice for in app awards!
Pitch tuner (for voice).
This app plays a note, and when you sing along, shows you whether or not you are matching the note and how far away you are by graphing your voice in real time. Great for vocal students!
Zoom.
Need I say more? This allows my students flexibility to have lessons online or in person. I have taught students all over the world this way! We use a dual camera system for piano lessons and it works a treat! See an example of how our online lessons work.
Sightreading Factory.
A great site for teaching fluency skills with music reading. Basically, the website generates music after you enter in a few key parameters. This allows students to play music that is targeted to their level and allows me to assess exactly where that level is for new students that have come to me from other studios.
YouTube.
I use YouTube to search for piano, backing tracks and lyric videos for my vocal students as well as tutorial videos of lesson book songs to send to my piano students when I’m short on time to create my own.
Flashnote Derby.
This app helps students to practice, reading their notes by allowing the student or teacher the opportunity to select specific notes to be trained on. It has fun playful themes centered on racing horses, unicorns, reindeer, and spaceships. The speed can be changed to make answering the questions harder. The app also reviews all the mistakes with the student at the end of their race. Best of all it has a microphone feature which the students can use to practice playing the notes on their instrument. The app will tell them whether or not they have played the correct pitch.
