Drum Lessons for Ages 7 and Up

At DMA we accept students 6 and up for drums. Now let’s go over some of the pros and cons of taking drum lessons so that you feel you’re making the best decision for your wallet, your schedule and also your own personality:
Pros of Playing Drums:
- Easy to play for young students developing fine motor skills
- You don’t have to worry about pitch
- Drums have benefits for both sides of the brain
- You can use drum sticks and also brushes too
- Flexible playing styles across multiple music genres
- You can use an acoustic or electric drum set
Electronic Drum-sets are best for someone who may live in an apartment building and or townhouse. You can use headphones and there won’t be much noise compared to an acoustic set.
For Electronic Drums, we definitely recommend mesh pads instead of rubber pads because they sound and feel better and aren’t as loud as rubber drum pads.
Cons of Playing Drums:
- Nails must be kept short
- Drums may be somewhat heavy to carry
- You need to have extra room to store your drum-set which can take up more space at home
- Have to worry about staying on tempo
Drums are definitely a rewarding instrument that provides a strong musical foundation and opens the door to playing in many different musical styles!

Drum Lessons for Beginners, Teens, and Adults

Both acoustic and electronic drum kits are excellent options. Electronic Drum-Kits offer a much more compact and volume-controlled solution ideal for home practice.
With scalable equipment options, learning drums can fit a variety of spaces, budgets, and lifestyles.
