Adult Music Lessons in Downingtown, PA

Maybe you've always wanted to play piano, sing, or pick up the guitar. Maybe you played as a kid and want to get back to it. At Downingtown Music Academy, adults of every level take lessons with patient, background-checked teachers who meet you where you are. There are about 20 to 30 adult students in our studio right now, and they come with all kinds of goals.

It's Not Too Late to Start

You don't need to have played before, and you don't need to read music. Your teacher starts from wherever you are and builds from there, at a pace that suits you. Our blog has stories and tips for adults who are starting out or returning to music.

What Adults Come to Us For

  • A bucket-list goal, like finally learning an instrument
  • Help with music for a band, choir or other group you perform with
  • A hobby of their own, often in a new season of life, like an empty nest or a change in careers
  • Singing for fun or for confidence, with no pressure to perform
  • Getting back to something they loved years ago

What You Can Learn

Adults can take lessons in any instrument we offer:

Bring Your Own Music

If you play or sing with a band, choir or other group, bring your music to your lesson and your teacher will help you work through it. You can also choose songs you love, and your teacher will build lessons around them.

Lessons That Fit a Busy Schedule

Many of our adult students take afternoon or evening lessons. You can also choose online lessons from home, which are the same price as in-person lessons and handy for a long commute or a bad-weather day. If you want more time with your teacher, 60-minute lessons are available.

Performing Is Optional

Some adults love to perform, and some would rather keep it between themselves and their teacher. Either is fine. Adults don't play in studio recitals, but they can join community performances.

What Lessons Cost

Weekly 30-minute lessons start at $170 a month, and 60-minute lessons start at $340 a month. See our tuition page for every option. A trial lesson is a $20 deposit that goes toward your first month.
